FAQ: How to manage bounce backs

One of our clients asked:

I am drowning in bounce-backs from the newsletter- what can we do to prevent sending to these addresses the next time we send?

Here is the solution: BriefYourMarket has a function where you can export and import lists of email adresses and other details. There is a simple checkbox allowing you to choose whether a new list being imported either skips existing records containing the same email address, making no change to these (un-ticked) or overwrites and updates just the data fields you select within the existing records with  the information you import. (ticked)

So, the way to "purge" bounced email adresses is to make a list in Excel of only the email addresses of those that have bounced back. Head this list "Email" then in the second column, Put "Subscription" as the heading and copy “false” all the way down this column. Save this as a "csv"

When imported, this will not remove the name and other data existing on BriefYourMarket even though it doesn’t have the first name, last name etc. So what it does is simply unsubscribe the bouncing email addresses so that they are not sent to in the next send.

In summary, the import feature of BriefYourMarket allows you to update any of the contact fields. Just always make sure you have the email address as this is what is used to match the imported contacts with the contacts in the BriefYourMarket database. You DON'T need first name and Last name
